A snowmobiler has been killed in an avalanche in northern B.C.

Mounties received a report of the accident just before 11 a.m. on Saturday. A group of five snowmobilers was riding in the Torpy Mountain range about 100 km northeast of Prince George when one of the riders was swept away by an avalanche.

The victim was a man, and his identity has not yet been released.

The RCMP says all the snowmobilers were experienced and properly equipped. No one else was injured in the avalanche.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating.
