Vancouver police say three suspects have been charged in the "cowardly and gutless" beating of a Good Samaritan who tried to intervene in the Stanley Cup riot, but six more have yet to be identified.

Insp. Les Yeo of the Integrated Riot Investigation team announced Tuesday that another 11 charges have been laid against five more suspects in the June 15 riot, but many of the people responsible for attacking Robert MacKay remain on the loose.

Police are now appealing for the public's help identifying them.

"I will not be satisfied until the other six are held accountable and neither will Robert," Yeo said. "Please look closely at their faces. They may be your coworker, your neighbour or your classmate."

MacKay was standing up to rioters trying to smash windows at The Bay when a mob of men pulled him to the ground. He was punched, kicked and pepper-sprayed in an assault Yeo describes as "violent and appalling."

"Despite viewing thousands of hours of video, investigators were sickened by what they watched as Robert MacKay was swarmed," he said.

Images of the suspects have been uploaded to the Riot2011.vpd.ca website. which has been redesigned and updated with 250 new pictures.

Seven months after the attack, MacKay said it's still difficult to watch the footage of his assault, and he might think twice before standing up to another angry mob.

"I'd probably second-guess myself before I do something like that again," MacKay said. "I just reacted to the situation and did what I thought was right."

MacKay said he had a few sleepless nights after his attack became national news, wondering how his family and friends would react. Now he's calling on his assailants to do the right thing.

"They should really come up and admit what they did," he said. "They caused a lot of damage to the city and to others, and you know, I think it would be a strong message to the rest of the world and the country to see that they admit what they did and deal with the punishment."

As of Tuesday's announcement, there have been 114 charges laid against 43 suspects in connection with the night of mayhem that followed the Vancouver Canucks' Game 7 loss agains the Boston Bruins.

Investigators have said as many as 700 people could ultimately face charges, and that the investigation could take up to two years to complete.
