False claim says postal outlets more expensive
Alex wanted to know if it costs more to ship from a Canada Post outlet than directly from the Post Office. She saw the claim on Facebook.
The McLaughlin on Your Side team decided to test it by wrapping up three identical packages, all books, and addressing them to the same location in Toronto. We then took them to the main post office in downtown Vancouver and two other postal outlets in Shoppers Drug Mart and a gift store in East Vancouver. We were quoted the same postage at all three locations. Canada Post told us that the Facebook claim is a hoax making the round on social media and said prices should always be the same unless the packages, being shipped, are different sizes and weights.
Why is a lien not automatically removed when a vehicle is paid off?
Charlotte recently paid off her vehicle and bought a new one. She was shocked to learn that her trade in still had a lien on it. Charlotte says her bank said it was her responsibility to request the lien release when the loan was paid off. We checked with the bank and were told that it normally releases liens after a loan is paid off but sometimes it can take more than three weeks. If you’re trading a vehicle and need the lien removed quicker, you can request a letter. The bank says that’s what Charlotte should have been told.
Storage locker access denied
Surrey resident, Pauline Ferguson called to tell us she couldn’t get into her storage locker to get her Christmas decorations, and her building maintenance man wasn’t being very helpful. We made a couple of calls and now Pauline has her Christmas tree up.
“On Monday afternoon, he let me in…. I'm so happy...I was so depressed, it just ruined my whole Christmas…and [now] I’m really, really happy,” Ferguson told us.
Glad we could help.
