The proposed seawall extension between Kitsilano and Jericho beaches may never see the light of day after the Vancouver Park Board put off the decision to consider the expansion.

After intense opposition from many speakers at Monday’s park board meeting, commissioners voted to defer the motion in order to look back at a 1994 decision to keep that section of beach in its natural state.

The City of Vancouver has already commissioned a cost analysis of the project, which projected an estimated price tag over $10 million.

An anonymous donor had stepped up to cover an undisclosed cost of the 2.5-kilometre addition.
