A 25-year-old Caucasian man found dead in a burnt vehicle in Burnaby, B.C., last week was the victim of a targeted homicide, police have confirmed.

But at the request of his family, the identity of the Metro Vancouver man has not yet been released, according to a statement by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

News of this latest targeted hit comes after the man's body was found in a burned out car in the 5600-block of Clinton Ave. in Burnaby on July 16.

At the time, police said the body was so badly burned that it was unrecognizable. However, investigators were able to identify the victim as a result of public assistance and associated dental records.

The vehicle that the body was recovered from has been identified and its origins confirmed.

IHIT says it is continuing its investigation with support from the Burnaby Serious Crimes Unit, Lower Mainland District Police Service, and Forensic Identification Section.
