A man with an extensive criminal history has been arrested after a female patient was allegedly sexually assaulted at Royal Columbian Hospital last week.
New Westminster police say they received a report that a patient was touched in a sexual manner on Friday. When officers arrived at the hospital, a suspect had already been detained by staff.
The alleged victim was not injured.
Aaron Edward Abernathy, a 29-year-old from North Vancouver, has been charged with sexual assault.
His court records include dozens of files ranging from drug charges, assault, breach of probation, break-and-enter, mischief and committing indecent acts in public.
Police have not confirmed whether he was also a patient at the hospital at the time of the alleged incident.
