Tickets to Friday's Paralympic Opening Ceremony were a hot commodity this week, and ticket brokers say the increasing demand for seats at Paralympic events has caught them off guard.

By the time the opening ceremony began Friday night, only the most expensive seats were left to purchase from the VANOC website. Event tickets are also moving quickly -- all but a few sledge hockey games are sold out.

The price might have something to do with it. Whereas a great deal of Olympic tickets ranged in the hundreds of dollars, most Paralympic seats cost less than $30.

VANOC CEO John Furlong says people are also just excited to relive the excitement they experienced in February.

"People came off the Games and realized they couldn't do without this and so they're back trying to get in on it again. It's great," Furlong said.

Whatever the cause, tickets are becoming difficult to find. Online classified website Craigslist has fewer "Paralympic ticket sale" ads than "want to buy" postings.

And Kingsley Bailey, owner of Vancouver Ticket Services, says he's having a difficult time getting his hands on the popular sledge hockey and alpine skiing event tickets.

"It's definitely not as easy as we thought," he said. "If we don't have it, bear with us. We'll get them."
