Two men and a woman have been arrested after shots were fired at Mounties during a tense car chase in West Kelowna, B.C. Tuesday afternoon.

The pursuit began after an RCMP officer tried to pull over a suspicious-looking green minivan at around 1:30 p.m., and the occupants allegedly opened fire and sped off down Westside Road.

Witnesses say a high-speed chase involving at least 10 police cruisers ensued, with the suspects switching vehicles a number of times before having their tires blown out by a spike belt.

Mark Langmead said at one point the suspects parked their minivan in front of him and tried to steal his car with his 12-year-old son in the back seat.

“One of the guys jumped out of the [van] screaming,” Langmead said. “Started running toward the car and trying to start smashing in my window.”

“The next thing I know the back window of the van exploded in glass and they jumped back in and tore off.”

It’s unclear whether police returned fire, but the female suspect was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

The suspects were allegedly driving a stolen black pickup truck when they were stopped, then fled on foot towards Swan Lake before being caught and taken into custody.

The New Westminster Police Department has been called to investigate the chase.
