RCMP arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a bank in Chase, B.C. after a six-hour standoff Thursday.

Police arrived at a branch of Royal Bank around 4:30 p.m. after a holdup alarm went off. Officers surrounded the area following witness reports that a man was armed with a knife, handgun and possibly a bomb, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said in a release.

It took RCMP negotiators until 11 p.m. to convince the 58-year-old to exit the bank.

Investigators say they took the man into custody without incident and found a knife and pellet gun inside the building.

Police are continuing the investigation and charges against the man, who has a criminal record, are being considered.
