The estranged husband of a B.C. woman who went missing almost two months ago has been charged with first-degree murder after her body was discovered in a suitcase in the Fraser River.

Young mother Yating (Lancy) Hu was last seen leaving her Coquitlam home on July 16, but wasn't reported missing by her husband for two days. In August, her parents flew to Canada from China to help authorities search for the 27-year-old.

Boaters discovered the suitcase on Aug. 27 near the west end of Steveston.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said an autopsy has confirmed the remains inside were Hu's, and that she was met with foul play.

"This is a tragic outcome for the family of Lancy Hu," Pound said in a statement, adding that "it is possible the Hu family will find some closure now that their daughter/mother has been located and may be put to rest."

Software designer Zhongming (James) Mou, 35, has been charged with murder in Hu's death. He remains in police custody.

He is due to appear in court in Port Coquitlam on Monday morning.
