A missing 46-year-old man has been found dead in the Barriere River, north of Kamloops, B.C.

Adrien Joseph Lozeau was last seen early Sunday morning at a campsite gathering with about 15 people. The group believed he was with others and were not concerned about his whereabouts, according to Cpl. Chris Newel of the Clearwater RCMP.

The group notified the authorities when they still couldn't find their friend 12 hours later.

RCMP, along with police dog services and the Kamloops and Barriere Search and Rescue teams, coordinated a joint effort to find Lozeau Sunday afternoon.

His body was spotted around 5:00 p.m. in the water approximately one kilometre downstream from the campsite but he was already deceased. His body was removed by the Kamloops Swift Water Rescue Team.

The cause of death is still under investigation, but alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The BC Coroners Service and Barriere RCMP are investigating.

Barriere is located 65 kilometres north of Kamloops.
