A 43-year-old man is dead and a teenager is in police custody after a stabbing Saturday night in Burnaby, B.C.
Mounties say they received a flurry of calls at around 7 p.m. about a brazen stabbing in the 6500-block of Burlington Avenue.
Witnesses say they saw a young man brandishing a small sword or medium-sized knife slash the victim, identified as Zsolt Csikos, in the neck.
Officers arrived at the scene to find Csikos seriously wounded on the ground outside a condo building. He was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.
About an hour later, at around 8 p.m., Vancouver police located a 19-year-old suspect in the stabbing. He was arrested and turned over to Burnaby RCMP.
Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the suspect and victim are known to each other, but not related.
"At this point of the investigation it doesn't seem to have any links to gangs, drugs or organized crime," Carr said. "It does seem to be on a more personal level."
A second scene was identified at Metropolis at Metrotown Mall, where potential evidence was found relating to the stabbing.
The suspect, who police say is facing a murder charge, is expected to appear in court in Vancouver on Monday.
The stabbing comes less than a week after a shooting at the Royal Oak SkyTrain station, in which a 22-year-old ended up in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police believe the incident was targeted.
