A 23-year-old man is in serious condition after he was shot in the chest at a Surrey, B.C., house party.

Police responded to a 911 call of shots fired at a home at 168th and 80th Street around 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning. They arrived to find a man suffering gunshot wounds to his upper body, and a car speeding away from the scene.

After a short chase, they officers caught up with the vehicle and boxed it in near 152nd and 96th. Police arrested the driver and a single occupant, and both remain in custody.

Staff Sgt. Randall Marquardt said there are several witnesses to interview.

"It looks as if there was a party going on," he said.

"We know this residence...we attended last night for instance three or four times to complaints of parties."

Marquardt said it was too early to tell if the shooting was gang or drug-related.

Up to 20 partygoers were taken into custody for questioning, and later released.

Police spent much of Sunday morning canvassing neighbours.
