Internet lovers, take note: free public Wi-Fi has officially come to Vancouver.

City council approved a five-year contract with Telus during the summer to provide free Wi-Fi at 43 separate sites, including pools, community centres, theatres, golf courses and a number of tourist hotspots.

This Wednesday, the service officially began at six locations: Mount Pleasant Community Centre, Champlain Heights Community Centre, Coal Harbour Community Centre, Roundhouse Community Centre, Langara Golf Course Club House, and the Fraserview Golf Course Club House.

Wi-Fi will be launched at Creekside Community Recreation Centre, the Gathering Place, Trout Lake Community Centre, and the McCleery Golf Course Club House over the next few weeks.

Public Internet comes at no cost to taxpayers, and there is also no time or bandwidth limits, according to the city.

The public doesn’t need to create an account to access the Wi-Fi either – simply select the #VanWiFi network name from the device’s settings menu, and accept the terms and conditions.
