An inquest into a fatal police shooting in B.C. has been adjourned to August after being delayed by a lawyer's request for more information about the history of the officer who pulled the trigger.

Eighteen-year-old Kyle Tait was shot by New Westminster police officer Todd Sweet when a police chase ended in Burnaby in August 2005.

Tait was a passenger in a stolen vehicle that police say was trying to ram a police car.

When the inquest opened Mar. 3, lawyer Cameron Ward demanded evidence about past misconduct complaints against Sweet and any anger management counselling he had taken.

Sweet's lawyer said that information had no relevance to the Tait case.

As a result of the dispute over evidence, the inquest will now resume August 25.
