ICBC has scrapped a proposal that would have seen B.C. drivers pay three years of higher premiums after a single speeding ticket.

Solicitor General Shirley Bond says she has called on the provincial auto insurer to come up with a new plan this week.

Bond says the new model will still take driving records into account, much the same as in other jurisdictions.

ICBC came under fire last week for proposing higher premiums to drivers who've had just one speeding ticket.

Corporation spokesman Mark Jan Vrem insisted the plan was not a money grab and that the extra cash would help cover the discounts enjoyed by good drivers.

NDP house leader John Horgan called the plan highway robbery and urged Bond to get rid of it.
