B.C. Solicitor General Shirley Bond is putting the brakes on a plan by the province's auto insurer to slap higher premiums on drivers who have a single traffic ticket.
ICBC says its plan is aimed at higher risk drivers and it could see one in three drivers paying higher auto insurance premiums.
NDP House Leader John Horgan called the plan highway robbery and called on Bond to scrap it.
Bond says she's already told the insurance corporation she doesn't like the idea of blacklisting drivers who get a single speeding ticket and she will be discussing the issue further with ICBC.
Corporation spokesman Mark Jan Vrem insists the plan is not a money grab.
He says higher premiums charged to people who don't have clean driving records will help cover the discounts enjoyed by good drivers.
