Police in Delta say they're investigating a shooting that became fatal early Friday morning.

Officers were called just after 2 a.m. about shots being fired at a home on 92 Avenue near 118 Street.

When police arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds. Police, paramedics and fire crews all tried to help the victim, but he died from his injuries.

“The victim and the residence are known to police and it is believed to be a targeted attack. No risk to the public at this time,” said Acting Sgt. Leisa Schaefer of the Delta Police Department.

No further details about the victim were given as next-of-kin is still being notified.

Neighbours told CTV News they are shaken, but not surprised about the violence that unfolded at the home.

They said police have been there many times, with the emergency response team being called in recently.

Cell phone video from Wednesday afternoon shows heavily armed officers and a dog team surrounding the home.

Neighbours, who CTV News has agreed not to identify for their safety, said officers even used a battering ram.

“Guys got out in full combat gear with a machine gun and then flash bombs through the window, the basement window there, which is boarded up now,” said a couple that lives nearby.

Neighbours said it all ended with four people being taken out of the home in handcuffs.

Then at 2 a.m. Friday morning, they heard several gunshots.

Dozens of officers arrived not long after and laid down dozens of evidence markers on the driveway of the home.

A bullet hole could be seen in an upstairs window.

Police have not provided a motive or any information about possible suspects.

Those who live nearby said they hope this is the last of police activity here.

“It was kind of scary, but I knew when I seen that, there's really a problem,” said Mary Schwab, a neighbour.

The Delta Police Department said its major crimes unit has taken over the investigation. Anyone with information or dash-cam video from the area is asked to call 604-946-4411.
