Rescue crews were forced to hike up Grouse Mountain Thursday after a man injured himself running down a trail.

The hiker said he was being less than cautious when he hurt his ankle on the BCMC trail, which runs alongside the Grouse Grind.

“I was running down the hill like an idiot. I was jumping around having fun,” he said after being rescued.

“Heard something snap and I don’t know if it was me or a twig. I’m hoping it was a twig.”

Rescuers were called to the mountain, and had to hoof it to his location and carry him to the gondola to bring him back down.

He was then taken to hospital by a friend.
