A Good Samaritan who rushed to the aid of a severely injured eight-year-old girl after a vehicle crash last week was rewarded by more than just good karma -- police gave her a pair of Stanley Cup playoff tickets for her selflessness.
Surrey RCMP say Maureen Craig launched into action after witnessing a traffic crash last Thursday where a little girl suffered significant head injuries. The adults in the vehicle were also injured.
Mounties say Craig was instrumental in consoling and keeping the young victim comfortable until paramedics arrived. She even rode in the ambulance to the hospital with the frightened child.
RCMP Victim Services identified Craig as a worthy candidate to receive the Game 2 Vancouver Canucks tickets, which were donated to the detachment by a family who couldn't attend because of an illness in the family.
"When the [members] hear about concerned citizens who stop and render assistance to those in need, they understand the importance this type of action can have," said Cpl. Drew Grainger.
"We are very thankful for the kind of action that Maureen offered at this accident scene."
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The young victim is recovering from her injuries.
