A four-year-old girl from Terrace, B.C. is recovering in hospital after being mauled by her family's two bullmastiffs Tuesday morning.

Mounties say the attack began when the youngster was playing in her backyard and reached her hand into the dogs' kennel.

"One of the dogs got a hold of it and started biting her, and the two dogs basically attacked her from there," Cpl. Sean Hall told ctvbc.ca.

The girl was rushed to Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace for emergency surgery before being flown to Vancouver for further treatment.

"The injuries to her head were minor, in terms of just requiring stitches to repair, but the injuries to her arm required surgeries to reattach tendons," Hall said.

Hall said she remains at the BC Children's Hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.

Both her parents are cooperating with police and surrendered their dogs to the Thornhill Animal Centre, where they were put down.

The police investigation has concluded, Hall said. No charges are being laid.
