Former solicitor general John Les is asking constituents in his Fraser Valley riding whether he should run in the upcoming provincial election despite an ongoing investigation into land deals he made a decade ago.

A letter from Les tells voters that he thought about withdrawing but the Liberal riding executive insisted he continue.

He says the campaign funds and an election team are in place, and signs are ready to go up when the race for the May 12 vote begins.

Les resigned from cabinet a year ago after it was revealed he was included in a police investigation into land deals during his tenure as Chilliwack mayor in the 1990's.

The allegations involve the Agricultural Land Commission and convictions under the land commission act can result in fines of up to $1 million and jail terms of six months.

In the letter, Les repeats what he has said from the beginning - that he expects to be completely cleared once the investigation is done.
