The final taste test at the PNE for 2009 was a sweet event for chocolate lovers.

A previous milk chocolate winner was pitted against a new product and we had no trouble getting taste testers.

We picked a PNE champion from past taste tests -Cadbury's Dairy Milk bar and pitted against a new product -Dove -which you've likely seen in your favourite grocery store.

We put them in cups marked "A" and "B", then had people tell us which they liked best.

Some liked to just nibble a corner for others it was 'down the hatch' all at once.

Some thought A seemed sweeter and smoother than B.

Others liked B the best because it wasn't as sweet and was more milky than A.

A was the Dove chocolate and B the Cadbury's Dairy Milk

In the end 54 per cent liked Dove best and 40 per cent liked the Dairy Milk. Six per cent said they tasted the same.

Most testers liked both products -it's always a win-win when you're sampling chocolate.

And at least one tester could only think of one thing that beats chocolate.

"Beer," he said. "But beer is a drink so in terms of the foods chocolate would be a 10 but counting everything it's a nine."

We also asked if our testers tend to try new products when they appear in the grocery store

Most people said yes at least part of the time -- and price was the most important consideration.

There are some reported health benefits to chocolate -- but remember it does contain a lot of fat and sugar so moderation is the key.
