A B.C. family’s missing cat has been found safe on Montreal airport grounds, nearly a month after disappearing from Air Canada’s live cargo area.

A worker spotted Chester the cat at Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport on Tuesday evening and managed to trap him in a cage.

On Wednesday, Air Canada brought the Scottish fold to a veterinarian for a full check-up.

“Thanks go out to all people involved in searching and locating Chester,” the airline said in a statement.

“We are currently making arrangements to bring Chester home to his new owner as soon as possible.”

The cat weighed in at five pounds and doesn’t have a scratch on him, according to a Facebook page set up to help find Chester.

Cloverdale resident Amanda Stewart bought the lop-eared cat from a Montreal breeder months ago. The animal was checked in for a Vancouver-bound flight on May 21, only to vanish before being loaded onto the plane.

Air Canada said Chester appears to have escaped after the bottom of its kennel became unsecured.

The airline said it set out cages, used food as bait, posted flyers near the airport and sent out search teams to try and find the cat.
