Close to 40 transit operators rallied outside a Surrey courthouse Friday as a show of solidarity for a bus driver viciously attacked by a passenger last month.

The bus driver was allegedly punched in the face after picking up Sean Tyler Quaye and his wife on March 26 at 132nd St. and 72nd Ave. in Surrey.

The bus driver suffered a broken nose, multiple broken bones in his face and loosened teeth in the attack. He continues to have problems seeing out of one eye, according to transit officials.

A flier was circulated to union members urging them to attend a Friday bail hearing for Quaye in their uniform to send a message that assaults on drivers will not be tolerated.

Quaye has been held in custody since being picked up on April 2 for allegedly driving a stolen car. He’s charged with assault causing bodily harm.

After a brief court appearance at 9:30 a.m., the bail hearing was rescheduled for April 22.
