Vancouver's Bloedel Conservatory could be off the chopping block, thanks to a plan that would see it partner with the Van Dusen Botanical Gardens.

Vancouver Park Board commissioners voted unanimously to endorse a plan to join the two tourist attractions at a committee meeting Tuesday night, spokeswoman Joyce Courtney told ctvbc.ca.

"Staff are going to work now with the two groups and work on the details on a possible agreement," Courtney said.

The proposal goes to a final vote at the next full board meeting on Sept. 20.

The conservatory was in jeopardy because of a $2.8-million shortfall in the Vancouver Park Board budget.

In November, the board voted in favour of closing both the conservatory and the children's petting zoo in Stanley Park. A month later, the board called for submissions from private groups with ideas to save the landmarks.
