The final games of Little League District Championship were held over the weekend in many parts of the province.
The winners will now move on to represent their districts at the Major Division Little League Provincial Championship taking place July 24 to August 1 in New Westminster.
District 1 - Vancouver, West Side - will be represented by Little Mountain Baseball. Little Mountain defeated Dunbar Little League 3-1 in the championship game at Hillcrest Park in Vancouver. The team finished the double round-robin district tournament with a 6-0 record.
District 3 - Fraser Valley - will once again be represented by Whalley Little League. Whalley beat Coquitlam 5-0 in yesterday's final game. Whalley finished the District 3 tournament undefeated and retained its crown as District 3 champs.
District 5 - North Shore - is sending West Vancouver Little League to Provincials. West Van secured a spot in the championships by defeating Lynn Valley 9-5 in Sunday's District 5 title game.
District 6 - Vancouver, East Side - for the sixth straight year will be represented by Hastings Community Little League. Hastings was also undefeated in district championships and moves on to Provincials to defend the title won last year.
District 7 - Victoria and Vancouver Island - will be sending Layritz Little League to Provincials. Layritz finished the round-robin tournament 4-0, winning the final game against Beacon Hill 9-0.
Trail Little League will also be sending a team to Provincials. Teams from Trail are perhaps best remembered for their legendary coach Andy Bilesky who led Trail to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA, five times.
As host league, New Westminster will be represented by its Majors All-Star team. The team chose to drop out of District 6 ChampionshipS after the round robin rather than risk being defeated by Hastings and not being eligible to play at Provincials.
The Provincial tournament will take place at Justin Morneau Field, Moody Park, New Westminster from July 24 to August 1.
