BC Coroners Service says Sortome and his son had been trying to climb Mount Rogers glacier when they were met with severe weather conditions. The two were trying to return to their base camp when something went wrong and both men fell down the mountain.

The son suffered some injuries, but Sortome did not survive the fall. His body was found the following day.
