A 19-year-old man has been arrested and is expected to face homicide charges following the death of a Port Hardy woman Sunday night.

RCMP Cpl. Darren Lagan said 28-year-old Cindy Scow was found suffering from injuries caused by a physical assault in an abandoned house in the 100-block of Tsulquate Road shortly after 11 p.m.

Scow was taken to hospital for treatment, but died just before 1 a.m. Monday.

The suspect was arrested Sunday night and remains in custody. Lagan said he will likely appear in court Monday to face homicide charges, and his identity will not be released until he is formally charged.

He added it is likely the suspect and the victim knew each other because they were both from the small First Nations community of Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw, but the extent is unknown.
