KEREMEOS, B.C. - An autopsy will be conducted Monday as RCMP try to identify the body of a man found on the banks of the Ashnola River near Keremeos, B.C.

The remains were spotted Sunday afternoon by an RCMP helicopter working near the south-central B.C. community, about 300 kilometres east of Vancouver.

RCMP say the autopsy will be carried out in Penticton.

They hope it will confirm the identity of the remains as well as the cause of death.

Mounties in the south Okanagan say they only have one recent file involving a missing person.

A man vanished June 5, after his vehicle plunged into the Ashnola River.
