The trial has begun for a man charged in a deadly hit-and-run in downtown Vancouver more than two years ago.

Stanley Wong, John Larkin and Ron Chan were crossing Hastings Street when they were hit by a speeding Porsche Cayanne in November 2005. The Porsche sped away and Wong died at the scene. Larkin died ten days later in hospital.

Paul Antunes is pleading not guilty to all six charges related to the fatal crash. He was previously known to police, and was arrested ten months after the incident.

The Crown's opening statements describe witness testimony that an SUV was driving approximately 100 km an hour, running numerous red lights and even becoming airborne while driving through intersections.

The Crown says it will rely on DNA evidence which will link Antunes to the SUV after his DNA was found on both the driver and passenger airbags in the vehicle after the accident. His fingerprint was also found on a parking ticket located inside vehicle.

Antunes is free on $75,000 bail.
