VANCOUVER - A B.C. Supreme Court judge has told a jury that a couple accused in a bombing plot could be found not guilty of terrorism even if it decides they thought they were acting on behalf of al Qaeda.

Catherine Bruce says that Crown prosecutors in the trial of John Nuttall and Amanda Korody have argued the accused were part of a terrorist group involving only them.

Bruce says finding that the couple acted on behalf of any other terrorist group would not be enough for a guilty verdict.

She reminds jurors to disregard the involvement of undercover police officers because by law they can't be part of a staged conspiracy.

Nuttall and Korody have pleaded not guilty after being charged with planning to detonate pressure-cooker explosives on the legislature grounds in Victoria on Canada Day two years ago.

Bruce was replying to questions asked by the jury, which is in its third day of deliberations.

The pair was arrested as part of an elaborate RCMP sting.
