An Abbotsford, B.C., teenager has been found safe, about 12 hours after he vanished under frightening circumstances, but police say mystery still surrounds his disappearance.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald says 18-year-old Mohsin Shah was found Tuesday morning.

He was last heard from shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday when his phone was cut off as he made a frantic call to a friend saying he was in trouble and needed police.

At the time, Shah had just left his home in the Fraser Valley community, 65 kilometres east of Vancouver, heading toward a meeting at a nearby hotel, but he never arrived.

MacDonald says Shah made a 911 call at about 7:30 Tuesday morning and was found about 25 kilometres east of his home.

Investigators say Shah was alone when officers reached him and they are still trying to determine why he vanished overnight.
