The son of a 69-year-old West Kelowna woman arrested during a marijuana grow-op raid says his mother was "in a desperate place in her life."

Eyebrows were raised in the Okanagan this week after the woman was picked up by Mounties during a grow-op bust in the 1900-block of Cornerstone Drive.

On Sunday, CTV News spoke to a man at the property who identified himself as the woman's son. He said he had come to help her move out.

"She doesn't have a lot of years left and she's a good lady," he said. "I don't condone what she did, but it's not really my business."

The woman has been released from custody but faces charges including production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Police seized more than 840 marijuana plants and a hydro electric bypass from the home.

A 29-year-old man was also found inside and arrested. He's facing the same charges.
