Two women who went missing after a boat capsized on a river near Prince George, B.C. Sunday afternoon have been found dead.
Mounties say four people were thrown into the Willow River at around 4:40 p.m. after the boat broke down on the water and was swept into a driftwood log jam. Two men managed to make it safely to shore and a search effort was launched to find the women.
RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass confirmed the body of one victim was found about 700 metres downstream from the crash site on Sunday night. The other was located after Prince George Search and Rescue resumed work Monday morning.
"The Swift Water Team located the second female at about 10 a.m. this morning under a log jam almost immediately where the boat capsized," Douglass said.
It's unclear what caused the boat's engine failure, but police don't believe anything criminal took place and will be handing the investigation over to the BC Coroners Service.
Mounties say the survivors were found cold and emotionally shaken, but not seriously injured. They were taken to hospital as a precaution.
The dead women have been identified as Prince George residents Christy Schwing, 31, and Carolyn Simpson, 43.
