Three people have been seriously hurt after an incident on the Sunshine Coast Sunday afternoon, according to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

Two of the victims sustained critical injuries and had to be flown to hospital by air ambulance, while a third patient was seriously injured and transported to hospital via ground ambulance.

Not much is known about the cause of the accident, which involved a heavy equipment collapse at around 3:30 p.m, just north of the Langdale ferry terminal.

The JRCC said due to the challenging nature of the terrain where the incident occurred, a hovercraft was called in to transfer the patients to a pick-up spot accessible by helicopter.

The identities of the injured people have not been confirmed.

The incident delayed a BC Ferries sailing from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay meant to depart at 4:45 p.m.
