The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is out with its results of the safest cars of 2018 and the news is encouraging.
Crash tests and safety standard evaluations found 62 models earned the Top Safety Pick award, and 15 of those models earned the highest award possible, despite tougher criteria for headlights and passenger safety.
“Most drivers when they buy a car they think the passenger is going to be protected as well as they are. Our new test is to try to achieve that,” said Adrian Lund, President of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Leading the way for the most Top Safety awards are Hyundai and Subaru. Both companies have responded quickly to new ways to modify their vehicles to help protect customers.
