North Vancouver Mounties are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect after a taxi driver was struck in the head with a liquor bottle Thursday night.

A taxi was driving eastbound on E29th Street towards Lynn Valley when an unknown person allegedly threw a bottle of gin at the cab, shattering the window and hitting the driver in the head.

Police say the driver managed to stop the taxi, but sustained cuts to his face and a broken tooth. A female passenger in the back seat was hit by flying glass, but was not injured.

The driver was taken to Lions Gate Hospital for treatment, and has since been released.

"This was a reckless and violent act," RCMP Sgt. Doug Trousdell said in a statement. "Throwing anything at moving traffic, whether it be bottles or tomatoes, is incredibly dangerous. Fortunately this didn't turn out to be even more serious."

Police say they found a bag of tomatoes near the scene, and believe the suspect may have been throwing them as well.

The 375ml Bombay Sapphire gin bottle was also discovered at the scene, as was a green and orange skateboard that may have been left by the suspect.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the RCMP at 604-985-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 and quote file number 2016-22114.
