A pair of unrelated crashes in Surrey Saturday night sent a total of four people to hospital.

Two of the victims came from an accident that took place on 68th Avenue near 140th Street just after 2 a.m. An apparently speeding car crashed into seven parked vehicles. The driver was fine, but his two passengers were sent to hospital.

The woman in the back seat of the car was conscious, but the man in the passenger’s seat was not. Firefighters had to cut him free from the crashed vehicle.

Those who live nearby say they’ve had trouble with people speeding in the past.

“Several times we've actually asked for the city for speed bumps,” said Ravi Sandhu, who lives next to the parking lot where the accident took place. “There's always people here crossing the street. There's a park.”

So far, their requests have not yielded the desired changes from the city.

“This guy was going at least 120, 130 kilometres an hour,” said Gurpreet Sandhu, who also lives there. “No speed bumps, that’s what happens.”

Another crash also took place overnight, this one on Scott Road and Highway 10. A white car and an SUV collided, and two people were taken to hospital.

Police taped off the area, shutting down major thoroughfares as they investigated the crash.
