The search of a wooded area in Mission, B.C. failed to turn up any signs of a missing teen mom, as concern for the 18-year-old grows.

Rachel Pernosky, who has a one-year-old son, was last seen leaving her home in the 7700-block of Kite Street just after midnight on Saturday and hasn't been heard from since.

The teenager does not have a history of running away. Police say they are concerned that even though she is an avid user of social media, she hasn't been active on Facebook or Twitter or used her cell phone.

“Her disappearance is very concerning,” Sgt. Shaun Wright said in a statement issued to media.

Members of Mission Search and Rescue scoured the trails and wooded area near her home on Monday, but stood down shortly before dark.

Meanwhile, RCMP are hoping to conduct an aerial search to cover a wider area, and friends have started their own searches.

Friends and family told CTV News that although Pernosky did not have custody of her child, she had a good relationship with the father, and was supposed to see her toddler on Sunday.

Pernosky had apparently made plans recently to spend time with her aunt in Kelowna, and never went anywhere without her cell phone.

She is described as 5’5, 115 pounds with long dark hair. She was wearing a purple hooded sweatshirt and jeans when she left home.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mission RCMP at 604-820-3535 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
