An alleged crime spree involving a stolen Acura and a fake firearm ended with a dramatic police takedown near Vancouver’s Olympic Village on Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses said a police SUV struck the Acura and pinned it against a pickup truck at 1st Avenue and Quebec Street around 1 p.m.

Gord Stewart, who was in the pickup with his wife, told CTV News that officers then arrested a man who tried fleeing from the stolen car’s sunroof.

“He climbed out … stood on the roof, turned and looked at me and then was tackled,” Stewart said.

Police also found a replica gun in the vehicle that they believe was used in a series of crimes earlier in the day.

The spree started in Richmond, where police said a grey Acura was stolen around 8 a.m.

“Soon after the vehicle was stolen it was involved in a road rage incident where the driver allegedly produced and pointed a firearm,” Const. Brian Montague said in a statement.

Police said the same vehicle was near Glen Drive and Terminal Avenue around 11:30 a.m., when someone tried to snatch a purse off the shoulder of a 19-year-old woman.

A struggle ensued and the woman managed to hold on to her purse.

The next incident happened about 45 minutes later near 18th Avenue and Laurel Street, where a man allegedly pulled up to a 34-year-old woman in an ally, pointed a handgun at her and demanded she give over her purse.

The victim complied, and wasn’t injured.

Then, around 12:45 p.m., officers spotted the Acura in the Kingsgate Mall parking lot, but the driver allegedly fled, ramming a police car along the way.

Montague said a police helicopter tracked the stolen car until officers could stop it near the Olympic Village. Beside the replica gun, a purse was found in the vehicle, according to police.

The suspect’s name hasn’t been released. Investigators said they expect to recommend multiple criminal charges in the case.

Police said they will be working with Mounties to determine whether the same man is suspected in a Richmond robbery Tuesday afternoon. The RCMP said an 80-year-old woman was held up at gunpoint in her own home by a man who stole her car and purse.
