Vancouver police are searching for former students of a 65-year-old piano teacher who has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Yung Ping David Chen was arrested Dec. 18 after allegations arose that he’d sexually assaulted one of his students.

He has since been released from custody under conditions that include no contact with anybody under the age of 18.

According to police, Chen has been teaching private piano lessons in the basement of his Vancouver home for more than 30 years.

Const. Brian Montague said police have identified several other potential victims of Chen’s – all girls or young women who range in age from 12 to 22 – and more charges could be laid.

“It’s going to be challenging because he has been teaching for so long,” Montague said.

It is unclear whether the current charges stem from an alleged assault against a former or current student of Chen’s.

Investigators are asking all students of Chen’s, past and present, as well as parents of students to contact police through their tip line at 604-717-0602 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
