A 46-year-old man is dead after a targeted gang-related shooting in the Fraser Heights area of Surrey, B.C. late Thursday night, according to police.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound said Christopher Pammenter was shot in the driveway of his home near 110 Avenue and 158A Street at around 11:45 p.m. in a possible drive-by shooting.

When police arrived at the scene they found Pammenter -- who is known to police -- suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene despite efforts to revive him.

Witnesses told CTV News they heard numerous shots fired between a person in the driveway and a white sedan, which sped away after the gunfire.

“There was actually somebody standing at the end of the driveway, towards the end of the driveway shooting back and forth exchanging gunfire,” one witness said.

It’s unknown how many people were in the vehicle.

Police said Pammenter was acquitted on an assault charge in 2006 and also had several driving offences. He owned many vehicles including a BMW, a Ford truck and several motorcycles.

IHIT is investigating the scene and anyone with information is asked to contact police.
