Travelers seeking splendor need not look further than their own backyard.

Five of the top 10 "city hotels" in Canada are located in Vancouver, according to a New York-based travel magazine.

Travel + Leisure Magazine released its annual "World's Best Awards" this week, an honour bestowed on the greatest islands, cities, spas, cruise lines and more. The awards are based on nominations and votes from the public.

The awards include a list of "The Best City Hotels in Canada," which featured six hotels in British Columbia.

The hotels were scored based on design, value, service, location, amenities and more, the magazine said.

The best city hotel in the country, according to T + L, is Vancouver's Wedgewood Hotel and Spa, which one voter compared to Downton Abbey. The Wedgewood boasts an award-winning restaurant and piano lounge, elegant salons and private balconies with views of the city.

The hotel was ranked fifth last year.

Also on the list were the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, Shangri-La Hotel, Fairmont Pacific Rim and Loden Hotel.

In addition to the Vancouver wins, a sixth B.C. hotel cracked the top 10: the Magnolia Hotel & Spa in Victoria.

The four hotels that were not in B.C. were the Trump International Hotel in Toronto, Ritz-Carlton Montreal, Auberge Saint-Antoine in Quebec City and Ritz-Carlton in Toronto.

B.C. facilities also made other lists, including "Best Resort Hotels in Canada." The Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort, Nita Lake Lodge, Fairmont Chateau Whistler, Four Seasons Resort & Residences and Wickaninnish Inn were all featured in that list.

Vancouver Island was voted the country's best island, and Victoria and Vancouver were both listed among the "Best Cities in Canada."

The magazine has already started collecting nominations for 2017
