A 12-year-old giraffe has died at the Greater Vancouver Zoo on Sunday.
According to zoo staff, Jafari was found around 7:30 in the morning, collapsed in his heated barn.
General manager Jody Henderson says Jafari was a healthy male who arrived at the zoo in 2001 at the age of six months. The cause of death is unknown, and a necropsy will be performed.
In November 2011, two giraffes at the Vancouver zoo died within the same week. Eleah, was a 23-year-old giraffe who was pregnant when she died. Her four-year-old calf, Amryn, died five days before her.
