A Caesar adorned with a week’s worth of meals served at a Vancouver pub is garnering worldwide media attention thanks to social media.
The $60 Checkmate Caesar, served at The Score on Davie St., is topped with a whole fresh-roasted chicken, with a cheeseburger and a pulled pork slider on top of that.
The creation is also skewered with onion rings, chicken wings, a mac and cheese hotdog and a fresh brownie – topped with whipped cream, of course.
The drink has gone global thanks to customers posting photos on social media, says pub owner Jesse Ritchie.
“Media all over the world: Good Morning America, food blog sites. When you order it expect people to want to take pictures of you with it,” he told CTV News.
After hitting the menu last month, the bar now serves dozens of the decadent drinks each weekend.
“It’s a huge hit,” said Ritchie.
The drink is also worth its weight in gold in terms of free advertising, says Simon Fraser University professor Lindsay Meredith.
“That picture is gonna bounce around the globe like you wouldn’t believe. That’s the best advertising you can get in the whole world because the segment who will buy these things are the people who use portable devices,” he said.
The Checkmate is just one of many Caesar beverages at the pub targeted to the “Tweet before you eat” crowd.
The “Grilled Chaesar” features a deep fried pickle, a full grilled cheese sandwich and onion rings, while “The Big Score is topped with a hard-boiled egg, bacon, sausage, pierogies and onion rings.
Finally, there’s the “Ain’t no Thang”: with the double threat of hot wings and onion rings.
