The death of celebrity chef Anthony Sedlak last summer has been ruled a suicide by drug overdose.

A report from the B.C. Coroners Service found the best-selling author and Food Network host intentionally took excessive amounts of cocaine and oxycodone before his untimely passing last year.

Sedlak was 29 years old.

The Prince George native’s body was found in his North Vancouver apartment on July 5, 2012. His family issued a statement days later indicating that he died due to complications of an undiagnosed medical condition.

The nature of the condition was not disclosed.

Coroner Bilal Waheed’s report, dated Dec. 27, classifies Sedlak’s death as a suicide and cites drug toxicity as the immediate cause.

Sedlak, who got his start as a busboy on Grouse Mountain at 13 years old, was remembered by friends as a warm, passionate person and a skillful innovator in the kitchen.

He won the “Superstar Chef Challenge” before hosting “The Main” for four seasons and then judging for “Family Cook-Off.”

After his death, Sedlak’s family set up a memorial scholarship in his name through the North Vancouver High School Education Foundation.
