Update: Police have identified a body found dead on River Road in Richmond Sunday. Surrey resident Alexander Renney, 20, was found early in the morning Feb. 23 at a business near No. 6 at River Road. The Integrated Homicide Investigation team says it is still investigating.

Original story: B.C.’s homicide investigation team says a body found in Richmond does not appear to be a random attack.

The grim discovery was made just after 6 a.m. in the 14000-block of River Road, after Mounties were summoned a business in the area.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took were called to the scene after it was deemed the death may be suspicious in nature.

Mounties are staying tight-lipped about the discovery, and would not say how the body was found, or the deceased's gender.

“We are in the early stages of this investigation however we believe at this point this was not a random act of violence rather the victim was targeted,” Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said in a release sent to media.

River Road was closed for several hours while evidence was collected at the scene. IHIT officers canvassed the industrial area for witnesses.
