A B.C. resort has cracked the top 10 most expensive in the world, according to TravelMag.com, the website of National Geographic Traveler Magazine.

At an estimated $3,681 per couple per night, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is the eighth-most expensive hotel in the world, and the most expensive in North America by more than $1,000. Its closest competitor is The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana, which costs a mere $2,385 per couple per night, good for 19th-most expensive in the world.

Another B.C. resort, the Queen Charlotte Lodge on Graham Island, rounds out the magazine’s top 20 at $2,308 per couple per night.

Rumoured to be the “remote wilderness resort outside Vancouver” where Ryan Reynolds married Scarlett Johansson in 2008, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, a 30-minute boat ride northeast of Tofino.

Known for offering luxury camping, or “glamping,” the resort consists of just 20 canvas “guest tents,” all furnished with “antique dressers and tea tables, opulent rugs, oil lamps, heirloom china and silver accessories,” according to the resort’s website. Twelve of the tents have heated floors and indoor plumbing.

A promotional video for the resort shows guests hiking, fishing, whitewater kayaking, zip-lining, horseback-riding, skeet-shooting, receiving massages, dining at a luxury restaurant, and playing paintball, among other things.

TravelMag.com’s rankings are based on the minimum price per night a couple would have to pay to stay at a given hotel, including applicable taxes and fees. The prices listed alongside each hotel reflect the average nightly price for a couple to stay between July 1 and Aug. 31 of this year.

The most expensive hotel in the world, according to the list, is North Island Lodge, a private island resort located in the Republic of Seychelles, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, 1,500 miles off the east coast of Africa.
