One person has died after a serious crash on Highway 1 in Langley Sunday night.

The collision occurred at about 8:30 p.m. when a Toyota Echo crashed into an excavator near 248 Street.

The vehicle became pinned under the construction machinery, causing major damage to the car.

The driver, a 73-year-old man, died following the crash. He was the lone occupant of his vehicle.

It is not known what caused the collision, but police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
